INDUSTRY INFORMATION & STATISTICS

NATIONAL INDIAN GAMING COMMISSION

GROSS GAMING REVENUE (GGR) FOR FISCAL YEAR 2023

is the highest in Indian gaming history,

growing to $41.9 billion.

The overall FY 2023 GGR increase was $1 billion, higher (2.4%)

than the historic FY 2022 GGR of $40.9 billion,

as operations steadily emerged from the pandemic.

All of NIGC’s eight (8) regions showed FY 2023 with an increase over FY 2022.

The GGR figure identified in this report is an aggregate of gaming revenues collected from

the audited financial statements of:

527 gaming operations

245 Tribal Nations

29 states

NIGC requires each tribe to submit financial statements covering all financial activities of each class II and class III gaming operation on the tribe’s Indian lands for each fiscal year.

Tribes are required to submit financial statements within 120 days after the end of the operation’s fiscal year. Once received, financial statements are reviewed and the information they contain is compiled to determine GGR.

It is important to note the year-over-year GGR change by region should not be used as a direct indicator of the local economy in any specific region.

Many other factors could have an impact on the GGR at the regional level, such as new gaming operations, expansions or renovations to existing operations, temporary or permanent closures, regulatory changes, or changes in an operation’s fiscal year.

The FY 2023 GGR figure is calculated from:

527 independently audited financial statements submitted to the NIGC by; 245 federally recognized Tribes; across 29 states.
An operation’s GGR is the total amount of money wagered less any amounts paid out as prizes and before deducting operating expenses.
For additional information regarding FY23 GGR, including information by region and facility size, please visit the NIGC website at www.nigc.gov.
